What is JROTC archery?

Archery has the unique ability to draw people out of a crowd. JROTC archery is an activity that doesn’t discriminate based on popularity, athletic skill, gender, size, or academic ability.

Archery is one of the fastest growing sports around the world because it empowers individuals.  Through JROTC Archery, cadets can experience discipline, patience, responsibility all while learning to focus with determination.  JROTC Archery Instructors will be equipped to reach new cadets through this unique skill of archery.

All National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®) safety features must be followed to preserve archery’s impeccable safety record.

Archery’s safety record is better than that of every ball sport taught in schools except table tennis. The set up and operation of a safe archery range is thoroughly covered in the NASP® “Basic Archery Instructor” training series. All JROTC instructors launching an archery team must become certified as a Basic Archery Instructor (BAI).

NASP® lessons are presented by NASP-trained instructors in accordance with their training.

Range set-up and operation, equipment, and training methods used in NASP® are very specific and the same for every school in the program. No matter the prospective instructor’s level of archery expertise, each must graduate from the NASP® “Basic Archery Instructor” ® training series. Only NASP-certified trainers may present “Basic Archery Instructor” courses.

Equipment used in NASP® is standard and approved by NASP®’s board of directors.

NASP® uses equipment that is safe, universal fit, modern, affordable, durable, easy for the teacher and the student to learn to use and identical for every student. NASP® archery lessons focus on the development of proper process over results. When every student uses identical equipment, the tendency to blame or credit the archer’s “success” on equipment choices is eliminated.

Only entities approved by the NASP® board of directors may coordinate implementation of the NASP® in states, provinces, and countries.

Founders believe successful implementation of NASP® requires institutionalization on a state, province, or country-wide basis. The coordinating entity must be willing to adhere to NASP® operating principles and be capable of delivering jurisdiction-wide implementation. Centershot® B.L.U.E. is charged with world-wide maintenance and expansion of the JROTC Archery Program for the benefit of students, instructors and the JROTC mission.

JROTC team structure

JROTC teams consist of 6 individuals, male or female, 9-12th grade. JROTC School programs can build more than one team of 6 individuals.

OPERATING PRINCIPLES

JROTC Archery will use NASP Style International Archery guiding principles. This will ensure program wide consistency and fairness for each archer and program.

Does my team need to qualify for the National JROTC Archery Tournament to attend?

What does a team consist of?

What places are awarded at the National JROTC Archery Tournaments?

Can I compete in both Western and Eastern National Tournaments?

Can my team compete in any other tournaments at Nationals?

JROTC has 2 tournaments that are designated only for JROTC units, Bullseye and IBO 3D Challenge.  There is no pre-qualification requirement to shoot in these tournaments.  They are for all JROTC units in all the U.S. Military JROTC services.

All JROTC teams and individuals attending the JROTC National Tournament may also compete in the Centershot Bullseye and IBO 3D Challenge.  A separate registration is required to enter these tournaments.

If the JROTC Unit is a part of a NASP Program and has qualified under NASP rules to compete at Nationals, then they are permitted to shoot in the NASP Bullseye and IBO 3D challenge according to their invitation from NASP.

The Eastern National Tournament offers a unique opportunity in allowing all participants from NASP, Centershot and JROTC to participate in the Genesis Indoor World Championships.  You can register for this tournament at Arrowscores.com.

If my team or individual competes in the JROTC National Tournament and meets the minimum score for the NASP Open Championship, are they qualified to attend?

Where can I get information on where to sign up for the JROTC Archery National Tournament?

In addition to the National Tournaments, is there anything else my cadets can experience while at Nationals?

Will there be SWAG items at the National Tournament for JROTC?

Are the Western and Eastern National Tournaments the only place we can compete nationally?
